Course overview
Barista Skills: Hygienic Practices and Espresso Coffee Service is a 40-hour course for new graduates, working professionals and career shifters with little or no barista experience. You start with food safety (SITXFSA005), the prerequisite for the rest of the course, then learn the café workplace, coffee beans, espresso equipment, dialling in and extraction, milk science, and the espresso menu, service and equipment care (SITHFAB025).
You complete Part A, the theory, online: illustrated slides, a knowledge check, a 10-scenario workplace situational quiz and an assessment for each module. In Part B you practise face-to-face with a licensed trainer, using equipment the college provides, through eight practical sessions, from hygienic work practices to peak-period service and close-down.
